No-Cost Chipping Service for
Fuel (Vegetation) Reduction

This program offers a No-Cost Chipping Service for fuel reduction to qualified residents (see list below of communities).

Guidelines to know before requesting a chipping form:

  • no ground-clearing disturbance permitted while removing tree limbs/brush
  • chipping crew is not responsible for moving brush beyond a 5' distance from the chipper
  • no palm, cactus, poison oak, or ice plant will be chipped
  • brush must be free of mud, rocks, and other debris
  • maximum six-inch diameter on cut limbs
  • piles no more than six feet high, and within five feet of road edge, and with cut ends facing road
  • piles must be fully accessible for chipping equipment and crew
  • chipped material to be left on-site in the area, not hauled away
  • brush or limbs that have been mechanically removed will not be chipped
  • brush or limbs that have been cleared or stacked with a tractor will not be chipped
  • contractors are provided with a weekly schedule; final scheduling decisions are made by the contractor based on location

CHIPPING FORMS AND FLYER:

  1. Call the Fire Safe Council at 619-562-0096 to request a form and confirm you live in a qualifying chipping area.
  2. Forms and a list of qualifying chipping areas can also be found on our website at www.firesafesdcounty.org.
  3. Mail chipping request form to 11769 Waterhill Road Lakeside, CA 92040 or fax to 619-562-4799.
  4. Material will not be chipped until a request form has been received, and material is stacked and ready.
  5. Chipping service is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, one day of service per property, and in qualifying
    areas only.
  6. Chipping service is dependent upon funding availability.
